After months and months of visualising, planning, dreaming and grinding hard, my photography website is now up and running and I could not be more excited to share this milestone with you. Kaylee from Honeythorn Designs did an incredible job of making my vision come to life. It was challenging to connect at times as often she had to be up at midnight or me very early in the morning to go through my countless notes, but hey we made it!
So why so much emphasis on a website?
Well, this space is as much for me as it is for you. A platform to not only share the work that I do but for many of you who are about to or are going through Motherhood, it is a chance for you to see where a photography investment with me would like like aswell being able to connect with other mums through images and their own stories. I believe that images and stories have the ability to empower, motivate and connect us to one another even if we don’t personally know the person behind the image or the story.
Where did the passion for photography start?
Photography has always been a meaningful way for me to connect with others. When I left my family at the age of 7 to move to New Zealand, I only had photos and letters remaining to connect with them. We didn’t have internet or phones at our fingertips (wow I feel old reading this back). There was the odd phone call but I ALWAYS had photos to remind me of my loved ones back home and letters that I could read over and over again. I think that is ultimately how I fell in love with photography and the story telling side of it all.
My Lola (Aka) also had a huge impact in the way I viewed photos. She was always showing me these black and white images of her as a young child along with all the members of her family. They were all in black and white of course, but I could tell she felt connected to them by the way her face lit up as she saw each photo.
Throughout high school, I dabbled in a bit of photography and even convinced all of my high school classmates in year 13 to do a photography shoot with me. The brief was that they had to do something that encapsulated who they were as an individual. I never got around to finishing this project because there were just so many of us. This was followed by wedding, newborn photos for friends and even events. It was inevitable that photography would find me.
When I fell pregnant with my now 2.5 year old, is when I decided to really pick my camera up and give things a real go and I haven’t put my camera down ever since. Connecting with so many mothers and families over the last few years has been so rewarding and I am glad that I now have this platform to share more of the work and more importantly stories from my own clients about their own journey.
Motherhood
Motherhood is a wild ride. It’s messy, chaotic, beautiful… there are not enough words but one thing for sure, Motherhood is a gift. Some of us come to it easily, while some of us, well we are still writing out that story. Whatever your story is, I hope you get the chance to sit down someday and relive it with your kids, grandchildren (just like my Lola did) whether its through photos or letters.
Thanks so much for being here.
With love, Dani xx
